129th General Hospital

Simeon Cummings served as a medical supply technician with the 129th General Hospital in England during WWII. As a Med Tech, he supervised requisitioned, stored and issued medical supplies and equipment. His family wanted to honor him, but no awards could be found. His unit was researched and replacement decorations were obtained.

Rev. Cummings was always a believer in education and entered Pembroke State College, now The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, immediately following high school. His studies were interrupted by World War II. He joined the Army in September 1940 and served five years, including 14 months in England. Following an honorable discharge in September of 1945, he reentered Pembroke State College and completed his undergraduate studies receiving his teaching certificate. Simeon Cummings was a member of the Lumbee tribe.
