Joe Shaughnessy or “Papa Joe” from Queens New York served honorably during WWII in the Pacific. Joe was eligible for the Bronze Star which he finally received at the age of 97 surrounded by 3 generations of the Shaughnessy family.

Joe’s citation reads:

“For meritorious achievement while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion 130th Infantry Regiment in the Pacific Theater of Operations on 14 February 1945, in military operations against an armed enemy of the United States. Private Shaughnessy’s exemplary performance of duty in active ground combat was in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 130th Infantry Division, and the Army of the United States.”
